Pros and cons of Lasik surgery
Mar 24th, 2010
Lasik surgery is the only permanent and fast solution to getting rid of vision defects like farsightedness and nearsightedness, which affect millions of people the world over. It involves surgery on the eye using a special laser that reshapes the cornea, so that it is restored to its proper shape.
The pros of Lasik surgery is that it’s fast and easy, and only takes 15 minutes per eye to complete. Years of myopia can be corrected in just less than an hour, imagine that! And after that, no more contact lenses or glasses to worry about. It’s like the crutches have come off miraculously.
The cons of Lasik are that it’s not entirely risk free. The most common complaint about Lasik surgery is that it may result in dry eyes, a condition where the eyes no longer produce enough tears to keep them moist. Dry eyes can be permanent as well. Other risks are maybe a botched surgery in the hands of an incompetent ophthalmologist, which may result in permanent vision loss. But this is the extreme end of the scale, and most Lasik patients get their money’s worth and say they are satisfied with the results.
There are many things to know about Lasik surgery before you attempt it. It is always good to educate yourself on the common Lasik facts before you embark on a surgery.
