What is in the food pyramid?

The food we eat every day contributes to our health and provides us with energy to live and work daily. As the saying goes, “You are what you eat,” we all should make sure that our foods are balanced nutritionally, and provide adequate amounts of the vital nutrients, like protein, carbohydrates, and fat.
But how do we know how much to eat of what?
The answer is easy to figure out when we have the food pyramid to provide a basic guideline to us on how to eat right. According to the food pyramid, the majority of our food intake should be from the bread and cereals group, which largely supplies our complex carbohydrate requirements. This should be followed by vegetables and fruits, while oils and fats should only make up a very small proportion of our daily food intake.
