Weight loss – tips and advice

Are you interested in losing weight? Knowing some useful weight loss tips could help you tremendously on your weight loss journey. Once you reach your goal weight you will most likely feel more confident, energetic and healthy. Here are a few practical tips to keep in mind when trying to lose weight:

  • Ensure you have a form of protein at each meal. You could for example have egg on toast for breakfast or a salad with chicken for lunch. Protein helps to keep you full for longer.
  • Avoid eating processed foods like chips, cakes and pastries. Not only are these foods unhealthy and high in calories, they also lead to more cravings due to the effect they have on your blood sugar levels
  • Drink about 8 glasses of water per day. Thirst is often misinterpreted as hunger and if you don’t drink enough water, you may end up eating more than you really need
  • Do not stand and eat. Sit down, eat slowly and enjoy your meal. If you eat too fast, you will realise too late that you have overeaten. It takes your body a while to register that you are full.
  • When you get sudden cravings, try to focus your mind on something else. Go for a walk, do some gardening, call a friend or drink a cup of herbal tea. These sudden cravings are not signs of real hunger and will go away after a while.
  • Stress can hamper your weight loss efforts due to the hormonal effects it has on the body. If you are experiencing chronic stress, consider using stress management techniques (like exercise, yoga etc) to help you relax.
  • Reduce of eliminate alcohol. Alcohol consumption causes increased insulin production by the pancreas which in turn leads to more cravings and also encourages fat storage.

Following the above tips will not only help your body burn fat but it will also make the weight loss journey easier for you
