Diets for Ulcerative Colitis
Jan 16th, 2010
Are there any special diets for Ulcerative Colitis? This is a familiar question that is often asked from sufferers of diagnosed Ulcerative Colitis or more familiarly named inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). It should be noted that your diet did not cause your IBD but with a little patience and trial and error you will be able to better manage the disease.
Firstly a suggestion is for a month to keep a food diary, and eat as you please. Monitor any intolerance to different food types and discuss your particular reaction with your Physician on your next visit.
At times of flare ups of the disease, ensure you drink plenty of fluids to replace fluid loss from diarrhoea. First preference should be water over fizzy sodas or cordials.
Eat small meals regularly rather than large meals with a focus on healthy types of foods ensuring that you include the likes of lean meats, dairy products and include a variety of fresh fruit and vegetables.
