Protect your skin!
May 25th, 2009
By far the largest organ we have is our skin. It is also the most exposed and sometimes neglected organ we have. We need to take good care of this special organ. If you agree with the last statement than this article is definitely for you.
From the start it’s important that people realize that all skin types are good. Oily and dry skin both have their advantages and disadvantages. For example if your skin type is dry, you will have less pimples and close to no oily shine. To counter balance this: if you have the oily type, your skin is less prone to wrinkling and other signs of aging. That’s because the moisture gets locked under the layer of oil on the skin’s surface. Regardless of your skin type you still need to take care of it. Here is how:
Moisture is life
People that have oily skin should moisturize with humectants. As a rule of thumb if you have oily skin you should use creams that have very little natural oils in them. Dry skin owners have to use creams which were especially formulated for the dry skin type.
Hygiene is very important
Some centuries ago cleanliness was frowned upon. Thankfully those days are behind and we have realized the importance of hygiene. Unwashed skin tends to breed colonies of micro-organisms. The skin starts to smell bad because it’s mixed with bacteria and skin secretions. The skin can also become sensitive and get easily damaged. Risk of skin infection multiplies when you have dirty skin that you don’t protect with things like moroccan oil.
Warning: sun!
Your hair and skin can get easily damaged by ultraviolet rays. Don’t fall for the “safe tan” myth, because there’s no such thing. Even your tanning lamps are not a safe alternative. Photo damage a.k.a sunburns can cause skin cancer and this is what makes them so dangerous. Your hair can also be damaged by the sun. When overexposed the hair suffers the same effect as that of bleaching. But don’t run for cover every time you see a sun ray. Sun is an essential element of healthy living. Sunbathe in moderation and you should be fine. Hopefully this article has provided you with some good advice. This article was all about 3 important elements: moderate amounts of sun, moisture and good hygiene.
