Allergy-triggering molecule found

British scientists have discovered a molecule that appears to play a key role in triggering allergies. Researchers from Barts and the London School of Medicine managed to stop allergic attacks in mice by targeting the molecule – P110delta, BBC reported Friday.

The researchers said the method did not interfere with the rest of the body’s immune defences, and it may offer the chance to prevent allergies, not just relieve symptoms.

The researchers looked at a family of proteins called PI3Ks, which have a variety of roles around the body. The P110delta molecule is one of these.

They believe that targeting this molecule alone might be able to interfere with attacks. They said that in mice, the molecule could be blocked, without harming the rest of the immune system.

Fill’er Up With Hydrogen, Please

When I was born, 75 years ago, my father owned a Service Station. When I was 5 years old, I watch him paint a sign that read “Red Gas 14¢ White Gas 12¢”.

He worked like a dog running that Service Station alone. He saved and saved until he could replace those old gravity feed “pumps”. You know, the old tall ones with the glass tank and the “gallons used” displayed to the side of the glass tank. He finally installed his modern electric pumps in 1940.

In 1946 the Atomic bomb was dropped on Japan and all the talk turned to atomic energy. My father was interviewed by reporter who asked what my father would do when everyone was burning atomic fuel. He answered, “I’ll sell atomic fuel.”

I don’t know that if today he would be so confident. What fuel would plan on turning to? Electric plugs to serve the Electrics and Hybrids, Diesel pumps, ethanol? Steam?

How about Hydrogen? How about a Hydrogen and gasoline hybrid? BMW is trying.

The Pill?

For women it is not always easy to choose between various contraceptives. Even when the decision has been made to use a hormonal contraceptive for the high security these provide, there are quite a few variants.

There are various kinds of implants as well as two basically different kinds of oral contraceptives: those which contain only one agent (the socalled “minipill”) and those which offer a combination of two hormones (estrogen and gestagen) like e.g. Ovral.

Female bodies

Images of female bodies are everywhere. Women—and their body parts—sell everything from food to cars. Popular film and television actresses are becoming younger, taller and thinner. Loosing weight

If you’re trying to lose weight one of the best things you can do for yourself is to cook at home instead of eating out at restaurants. Since you won’t be served such mammoth portions you won’t eat as much and what’s even better, you’ll be able to cut down on the amount of fats you eat by cooking light. Cooking light doesn’t mean that you have to eat lettuce and broccoli for every meal. For the most part, cooking light means making a few small substitutions and paying attention to what exactly goes into your food. Switching from butter to low-cholesterol margarine is a good step, as is cooking meat and vegetables in non-stick pans or using LG appliance microwave ovens in order to avoid cooking with oil. Fried foods, one of the staples of restaurant meals, should be completely eliminated from your menu if you’re cooking light. Children who constantly suffer from constipation or diarrhea may also have IBS. IBS can affect people of all ages and children are not exempt. Like adults, it is common for children to have constipation and diarrhea from time to time. Yet, children with IBS often feel recurring abdominal discomfort or pain. Pain relief is only experienced after moving bowels. However, abdominal pain comes back whenever there are any changes in the frequency and consistency of the stools.
Nevertheless, the above-mentioned symptoms should have been present for at least 12 week during the last 12 months in order for the case to be diagnosed as IBS.
Treatment for children with IBS is usually done by changing the child’s diet often by increasing fiber and lessening fat. Children should also be taught to empty bowels at regular intervals and time schedule.
Children with constipation due to IBS are not normally prescribed laxatives since they are more prone to being addicted to them.

Basically, you have to ask yourself if your state of mind is interfering with your ability to function normally. Am I able to complete tasks as usual in spite of my current dreary outlook? Am I unable to maintain healthy relationships with coworkers, friends and family because of my mood? Am I suffering from depression really?

It has become standard practice for many people to have a few drinks before engaging in exercise. The dual justifications are often given that, firstly, a little alcohol can actually improve sporting performance, and that, secondly, any negative effects of the alcohol will be more than compensated for by the benefits of the exercise. Both these rationalizations need to be called into question.

Research has indeed shown that small amounts of alcohol do increase muscular endurance and the output of strength, but these types of benefits are very short lived. After 20 minutes or so, the negative effects begin to surface, and these easily outweigh the benefits. The negative dimensions of alcohol consumption include reduced strength and endurance, diminished aerobic capability, longer recovery time, a decrease in the body’s ability to metabolize fat, and even a retardation in muscle growth!
